Mills, William, d. 1802.
The father of architect Robert Mills (1781-1855), William Mills was a native of Dundee, Scotland. He came to America in 1770 and settled in Charleston, S.C., where he made his living as a tailor. His first wife, Anne Taylor, died in 1790. In 1795 Rebecca Shrewsberry, a widow, became the second wife of William Mills.
