H. F. Strohecker graduated from the University of Georgia in 1873. After his graduation from the University, he read law with Senator Augustus O. Bacon in Macon, Georgia, and practiced law there until his death in 1925. He was the youngest of three surviving children of wealthy parents. His father, Dr. Edward L. Strohecker was a graduate of the Medical College (University) of South Carolina. He was a physician, and was also elected three times as Mayor of the young city of Macon. He was an orgainzer of the Georgia Medical Association and served as a delegate to the National Convention the year of its organization, served as Post Master, and it is recorded that he travelled widely visiting troops during the Civil War. Young Henry, the Georgia student, was crippled in early childhood (it is assumed from rheumatic fever). He walked with crutches, and tradition tells us that he and his father visited very many health spas in an attempt to find some cure for his affliction. As a consequence of this, he was a very spoiled child. This explains much of his apologetic attitude in the letter to his parents on his 21st birthday. Dr. Strohecker died in 1878 and young Henry, with no training in economics, was left with a self indulgent mother (described as an heiress of the times), a large home and numerous properties with no income. Theirs was the story of the times. The eighteen room home occupying a corner of Mulberry and Spring Streets in Macon (just across Spring Streer from the now famous Hay House and next door fo the Cannon Ball House) burned in 1879. Henry was left with many properties and had never known the necessity of earning money. Several houses were built on the property and he and his mother occupied one of them on Spring Street facing the Hay House. Henry Strohecker married for the first and only time in 1901, his bride a girl of 17 years and 8 months. They visited the University on their honeymoon and tradition has it that Senator Bacon commandeered a dray to catch up with the carriage in which the bridal couple were riding so he, Senator Bacon, could meet the young bride. Henry was 50 years old, she was 18, and there were six children of this marriage.
