Hide Profile

Walter Edwards, creator of the scrapbook, is a descendant of one of the soldiers of Company H, 15th Massachusetts Volunteers, engaged in the Battle of Balls Bluff which occurred on Oct. 21, 1861, at Balls Bluff, overlooking the Potomac River, near Leesburg, in Loudoun County, Va. Although this was a small battle, it was significant because of the large number of northern casualties and the death of the commanding officer, as well as being one of the first major losses for the North. The 15th Massachusetts was raised in Whitinsville, Mass., and surrounding towns.
