Freda Gibson Powell was a theater teacher and enthusiast. She was born in Monahans, Texas, where she experienced the stage for the first time. Powell taught at an elementary school in Monahans, a high school in El Paso, and at Odessa College (Odessa), Sul Ross State (Alpine) and Tarrant County Junior College (Fort Worth), where she was also chairman of the Drama Department at each. In 1973 and in 1979, Powell was honored for her contributions or Texas educational theater by the Texas Educational Theater Association. Powell also authored and produced the play "The Greatest Glory" in 1974, at several different sites in Texas in honor of the state's bicentennial celebrations. She died in 1993.
