Jean E. Schweer (1921-2003) was a professor at the Indiana University School of Nursing who helped revolutionize continuing education for nurses. A graduate of Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana and Indiana University, Schweer joined the IU School of Education in 1955 where she established the first graduate program in Medical-Surgical nursing. In 1966 she developed a continuing education program at the IU School of Nursing at Indianapolis. Before retiring in 1986 as associate dean of continuing education in nursing, Schweer helped define national standards for nursing continuing education. Ms. Schweer was involved in a number of professioal associations and received numerous educational awards. Schweer also authored a textbook, "Creative Teaching in Clinical Nursing" (1968), and prepared several publications related to coninuing nursing education. Jean E. Schweer passed away on 16 February 2003.
