Sawin, Thomas E., 1810-1873
Thomas E. Sawin (1810-1873), of Wendell, Mass., served as a printer's apprentice in Amherst, Mass., during the period 1829 to 1831. After several years as an itinerant printer, he returned to Wendell in 1846. The town itself had been incorporated in 1781 from a section of Shutesbury, Mass., and a part of a tract of land called Ervingshire. Sawin spent many years collecting and compiling materials for a history of the town, but age and ill-health prevented the creation of such a book.
