Pella Lutheran Church (Sidney, Mont.)

Hide Profile

A Danish colony of about 70 immigrants settled in the Sidney area at the turn of the century. In 1906, under the direction of Rev. Hans Hansen of Kenmare, North Dakota, a congregation was organized and became a member of the United Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church. The original church was built in 1909 outside of town, but in 1912 it was moved to the city where it now stands. Groundbreaking for the new church was held in 1947. The structure was designed to reflect the architectural style of Denmark.

Pella was host for the last national convention of the UELC in 1959. There are 1200 baptized members from every nationality and walk of life in the congregation.
