Bloom, Harvey Harris, 1838-1864

Harvey Harris Bloom was born in North Norwich, New York, on August 23, 1838. He entered Yale College with the class of 1862, but left during his junior year in order to fight for the Union Army in the Civil War. Unable to maintain a soldier's life, he returned to Yale and graduated in 1863. Already in poor health, though, Bloom died of consumption on March 18, 1864.

Harvey Harris Bloom was born in North Norwich, New York, on August 23, 1838. Harvey Harris Bloom, son of Benjamin and Abby La Rue Carle Bloom, of North Norwich, (King's Settlement,) New York, was born August 23d, 1838, and died at his father's home, March 18, 1864, aged 25 years.

He was originally a member of the class of 1862, and upon reaching the close of his Junior year, he entered the military service of his country as First Lieutenant in the Fifth Regiment, Excelsior Brigade, N. Y. State Volunteers.

His strength was not sufficent [ sic ] to bear the exposure to which he was liable, and after two severe illnesses he resigned his commission and re-entered college in the class of 1863, with which he graduated. But his health was seriously impaired, and after a gradual decline he died of consumption.
