Washburn, Estelle Powell.
Estella Powell (age 19) and her sister Chlora Powell (age 25) moved to Washington, D.C., from Bloomington, Ill., in 1924. They were there less than a year, returning home as a result of the illness and subsequent death of their sister, Thelma. Estella married Andy Washburn on July 19, 1932. The family contends that Andy said to Estella the day they met, July 19, 1927, that they would marry five years from that date. The couple's correspondence seems to give credence to the story.
