Brinckerhoff, John DeWitt,
John Adams Dix was a politician and legislator. He was seceretary of state of New York (1833-39); United States Senator for New York (1845-1850); secretary of the United States treasury (1861); United States minister to France (1866-1869); and governor of New York (1873-1875). John Adams Dix married Catherine Morgan Dix, daughter of John J. Morgan, in 1826.
