Lawyer, town and state politician, and businessman of Concord, Mass. Born (1826 May 24) and died (1897 Jan. 31) in Concord. Graduated from Harvard College in 1848; studied law with Samuel Hoar and E.R. Hoar; admitted to bar in 1850. Concord Town Clerk 1853-1894; also Town Treasurer, Assessor, Tax Collector. Member of Massachusetts Legislature (House of Representatives 1862, 1863, 1866, 1867, and 1875; Senate 1864 and 1865). Served as Treasurer of Middlesex Institution for Savings in Concord, Director and President of Concord Bank and Middlesex Mutual Fire Insurance Company.

(Cont.) Director of Eastern Railroad and Fitchburg Railroad, and Director and President of American Powder Company. Elected member of Social Circle in Concord Nov. 8, 1864.
