Foster, Doris Van Liew
Doris Foster Van Liew was born November 9, 1899 in Bellaire, MI. For most of her career she was a supervisor and teacher for the Indianapolis Day Nursery. She once stated: "Living with children informally, such as a day nursery, was conducive to my attempting not to write a juvenile book but rather to talk to children. I was fortunate to be able to listen when at rare moments they revealed glimpses only pertinent to childhood." She retired in 1965 and died in 1993.
