Gibb Gilchrist (1887-1972) was an engineer whose career encompassed the Texas State Highway Department and the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. Under his administration, the TSHD was reorganized and the Texas highway system made rapid growth. He was appointed Dean of Engineering at the AMC of Texas in 1937, and was appointed President in 1944. He eventually served as chancellor of the statewide A&M College System and as Chancellor Emeritus. He held a number of academic and honorary degrees, and was active in professional and civic organizations and the Masonic Lodge in Texas.
