Norbert Krapf was born in Jasper, Indiana. He received his bachelors degree from St. Joseph College in Rensselear, Indiana and his masters and doctorate in English from the University of Notre Dame. He taught English at the C.W. Post of Long Island University, New York from 1970-2004. Upon retiring, he and his family moved to Indianapolis. Since 1976, he has written or edited twenty books. In 1999, he received the Lucille Medwick Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America for the poem "Fire and Ice." He received an honorary doctorate of letters from his alma mater, St. Joseph's College, the David Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching from Long Island University, and a Trustees Award for Scholarly Achievement from L.I.U. English artist, Martin Donlin, selected his poem "Back Home" to be part of a large stained-glass panel for the new Indianapolis Airport, scheduled to open in late 2008.
