The Office of Institutional Research provides support and services for the provost, as well as for University committees affiliated with the provost. The Office of Institutional Research grew out of the Office of Educational Research, which originally reported to the Yale College dean's office. During the 1950s, it was influential in the creation of educational testing. During the 1960s the name of the office was changed to its current name. In 1978, the Office of Institutional Research was assigned to the provost. In addition to overseeing general administrative issues pertaining to the provost, the Office of Institutional Research is responsible for the coordination of standardized educational tests and for the creation and distribution of college questionnaires.
