Group XI was organized in 1927 as a club that would meet in the evening in order to allow working women of Topeka, Kansas to join. The club was founded by members of the Central Congregational Church and that church's Women's Society in particular, though membership over the years was comprised of women from a variety of faiths. The society received its name because there were already ten other fellowship groups in the church. Over the years the club provided a variety of services, such as creating packages of food and other items for the needy, helping missionary efforts overseas, the war effort at home during World War II, and making monetary donations to various organizations and institutions. The group continued to meet for dinner and speakers' presentations. By 2004, group membership had declined and Group XI disbanded.
