The Evergreen Galleries were established early in The Evergreen State College’s history. Sid White, a founding faculty member, facilitated the establishment of the Galleries and in 1972 organized the first exhibit. Sid became the Gallery Director in 1978 and remained as director until 1990, at which time, Peter Ramsey became the Director. Prior to 1978, the galleries were maintained by the art staff and faculty, and the exhibits mainly consisted of student and faculty art. Ann Friedman became the current Gallery Director in April 2004. During her time in the gallery there have been many changes primarily due to the renovation of the Library building which resulted in the gallery spaces absorbed for other uses and a new gallery established. The last exhibit in Gallery 2 was in October, 2005. The last exhibit in Gallery 4 was in June, 2007. The new gallery located on the second floor of the library building opened with the first exhibit in April, 2009.
