Hide Profile

Lawrence Scholes was the Sheriff of Allegany County (N.Y.) during the time the county's citizens successfully protested against New York State's attempt to place a low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) dump in the region. He was responsible for directing law enforcement during the protests. One protester, M. Alexandra Landis, presented him with the flag from her son's casket and asked that it be given to the New York State Governor, Mario Cuomo.
