Committee on LDS Meetings and Newspapers in Foreign Languages (General Church: 1924-1939)

Hide Profile

This committee was created in January 1924 from the Editorial Committee of the Associated Newspapers, composed of John A. Widtsoe (chairman), Rulon S. Wells (vice chairman), Nephi L. Morris, Serge L. Ballif, and Angus J. Cannon. Later John Wells, Andrew Jenson, and J. M. Sjodahl were added. The purpose of this committee was "to supervise all meetings of the Latter-day Saints held in foreign languages, and to have charge of all newspapers or periodicals published in such foreign languages," including primarily the Associated Newspapers. It was officially discontinued in May 1939, although it was allowed to continue to exist in a reduced capacity and played a role supervising foreign language groups in coordination with stake leaders into the 1940s. The name of this later committee was "Committee on LDS Meetings in Foreign Languages."
