Françoise Robin was born in 1748, the daughter of Antoine Robin de Livet of Lyon, France. She was married first to Pierre Poivre (1719-1786), naturalist and Intendent of the islands of Mauritius and Réunion. In 1795 she became the second wife of his friend, Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours and emigrated with him to the United States in 1800. The couple returned to France in 1802, but Françoise was unable to accompany Pierre when he returned to America in 1815. After his death two years later, she remained in France and died at Paris in 1841.
