Biography

Shortly after the descendants of Captain Charles David Maria Weber (1814-1881), founder of Stockton, Calif., gave a large collection of the family's papers, library and home furnishings to the San Joaquin County Historical Society (1984), Society members decided to commission Stockton historian, James Shebl, to write a book-length study of the Captain (1986). Shebl spent nearly six years on the project, finally publishing "Weber!: The American Adventure of Captain Charles M. Weber" (1993).
