Joseph A. Altsheler was a prolific writer of novels with a background in American history. Born in Hart County, Kentucky, he worked for several newspapers, including the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL and the New York WORLD. He wrote more than forty novels and at the time of his death was a very popular author of adventure stories for boys.
