Townsend family.
Sir Roger Townshend (d. 1493) was a judge and founder of the Townshend family from Norfolk, England which included many distinguished statesmen and soldiers. One of his descendants, John Townshend, married the daughter of Nathaniel Bacon (1547-1622) who was made sherrif of Norfolk in 1599 and knighted in 1604. Sir Horatio Townshend (1630-1687), 1st viscount, was a promoter of the Restoration.
