Variant namesConst Pt 2, C 1, S 3, Art 10 provides that the House of Representatives choose its own Speaker. A member of the majority party of that branch of the General Court, the Speaker presides over House sessions, serves as chair of the House Committee on Rules, and nominates the chair and majority party members of the other House standing committees.
