William Stoll is the son of Walter W. Stoll, who was the general manager of Alaska Pacific Mines (1936-1943) which later became the Alaska Pacific Consolidated Mining Company. The company operated Independence Mine, one of the largest hard rock gold mines in Southcentral Alaska. Walter W. Stoll served as vice president of the company from 1943 until his death in 1949. After his death, William Stoll, a mining engineer, was in charge of the company until it closed in 1951.
