Asa Stokely Morgan was born November 13, 1825 , in Macon, Georgia. He moved to Arkansas in 1843, where he was a planter and merchant in Union County. On May 17, 1861, he was appointed captain of Co. "A", 1st Arkansas Infantry, CSA. The regiment first served in Virginia, but later transferred to the Western Theater. Morgan returned to Arkansas during the spring of 1862 and subsequently raised another unit for Confederate service. After the war, Morgan returned to farming in Union County and served for a time as a state legislator. He died February 25, 1909, in Camden.
