John Albert Slingerland (1768-1850) was the son of Albert Slingerland (1733-?). John A. Slingerland married Leah Britt (1776-1863) the daughter of Frederick Britt and Helena (Burhans) Britt, and had seven children including William Henry Slingerland (1820-1910) who married Elizabeth Wayne (1818-1868) and is represented in this collection. William H. Slingerland founded the Suburban Water Company in 1902 and was a surveyor and civil engineer (founding W.H. Slingerland and Son), a postmaster of Slingerlands, a founder of the Reformed Church in Delmar, New York and a member of the State Legislature. John A. Slingerland had also been involved in politics.
