University of Florida. Agricultural Experiment Station

The branch units of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and its predecessors have been given many different designations over the years. The first branch units were established in 1891 and were known as sub-stations but were terminated after only a few years. The first permanent "branch station" was created in 1917 at Lake Alfred. Other branch stations and "field laboratories" followed. In the 1970s, all branch units were redesignated Research and Education Centers.

Florida's agricultural experiment station was established in 1889 at the Florida Agricultural College in Lake City. It was moved to the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1906.
