Arthur Farrer was a lawyer whose family firm Farrer and Co. still occupies offices in Lincolns Inn Fields. Farrer acted as expedition solicitor for the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). He was also Apsley Cherry-Garrard's personal solicitor having power of attorney while Cherry-Garrard was in the Antarctic with the expedition. He and his wife Charlotte corresponded with the Cherry-Garrard family being personal as well as business acquaintances.
