Hauser, Henry Dixon, 1838-1925

Henry Dixon Hauser was born in 1838 in Falmouth, Pendleton County, Kentucky, to Samuel Thomas Hauser and Mary A. Kenneth Hauser. He received his education in business, and moved to Montana in 1865. He worked at the Internal Revenue Department in Virginia City, Montana from 1865 until 1868. He then moved to Helena, Montana and speculated in stocks and mining interests for three years. He moved to Cedar Creek and began to purchase gold dust. He stayed in that business for a year, before he went to Oregon, purchased 3,000 sheep, and drove them back to Montana. He stayed in the sheep business until 1881. In 1878 Hauser moved to Butte, Montana and there took charge of a bank owned by S.T. Hauser & Company. This bank was a private bank that had converted to a national bank, formally known as the First National Bank of Helena. This was the first national bank in Helena. Hauser managed the bank for several months and then became the assistant cashier. He also owned several shares of stock in the bank. In 1882 Hauser was elected to the Butte City Council. He was the brother of financier and Montana governor Samuel Thomas Hauser.

Henry D. Hauser was born on 1 Mar. 1838 in Falmouth, Ky. He was the brother of Samuel T. Hauser. Henry served in the Union Army during the Civil War and then moved to Virginia City, Montana Territory, in 1865. There he held a job with the Internal Revenue working for N.P. Langford. Hauser relocated to Helena in 1868. In 1872 he entered the sheep business, bringing stock into Montana from Washington. In 1879 he began in the banking business in Butte, working as assistant cashier. In 1882 he was elected councilman for that city. Hauser had other business ventures including a mercantile operation in Wickes and mining interests in the Helena and Butte areas. Henry D. Hauser died on 6 Feb. 1925 at the age of eighty-seven.

Henry Dixon Hauser was born in Kentucky on 1 Mar. 1838, one of four sons and three daughters of Samuel T. and Mary (Kennett) Hauser. He followed his older brother Samuel T. Hauser, Jr., to Montana in 1865 and worked at first for the Internal Revenue Dept. in Virginia City. He later worked in banking, gold mines, and a mercantile business in Wickes. In 1872 Henry Hauser purchased 3,000 sheep in Oregon and returned to Montana to raise sheep with his partner, Walter B. Dance (1820-1878). In 1878 Hauser moved to Butte and was assistant cashier of his brother's bank, the First National Bank of Butte. In 1882 Henry was elected a Butte city councilman. Henry D. Hauser never married and lived at the Montana Club in Helena for many years and died there on 6 Feb. 1925.
