Hannah Frank was born on 23 August 1908 in the Gorbals area of Glasgow, Scotland, daughter of Charles and Miriam Frank. Charles Frank, a Russian immigrant, was the owner of a successful camera shop at 67 Saltmarket, Glasgow. Hannah attended Strathbungo School and Albert Road Academy in the south side of Glasgow, and matriculated into the Arts faculty at the The University of Glasgow in 1926 . She didn't attend university in 1927, but returned the following year. In her first and second years she studied English and Latin, also studying French in her first year. In her third year she studied Botany and Moral Philosophy. Hannah Frank was awarded a Certificate of Distinction in the 1928-29 session for her Latin Languaue and Literarture class. During her time at university she provided poems and drawings for the Glasgow University Magazine (GUM) under the pseudonym Al Aaraaf . She graduated with a MA in 1930 and went on to attend Jordanhill Training College to become a teacher. She married Lionel Levy, a science and mathematics teacher, in Pollockshields, Glasgow, on 2 July 1939 and went on to attend the Glasgow School of Art to study sculpture. She was active within the Jewish Community, providing drawings for various organisations from the 1940s onwards, and contributed her work to fundraising campaigns. From the 1950s onwards she worked exclusively in creating sculptures and continued to do so until her early 90s. She died on the 18th of December 2008.
