Aviator. "Jimmy" Melrose was born in Burnside, South Australia, the only son of James Melrose (d.1922). In 1934 he flew to England solo in record time (8 days, hours). Was the only solo flyer to finish the MacRobertson England-Australia Air Race in October 1934. Participated in the search for Charles Kingsford Smith in 1935. Killed in a charter plane accident over Melton, near Melbourne, July 1936.
