Ales Hrdlicka led a Smithsonian Aleutian expedition for three field seasons (1936-1938) to explore the archeological resources of the Aleutian Islands. Team members included William Laughlin and Paul Guggenheim. Guggenheim mapped additional prehistoric sites during World War II while stationed in the Aleutians as a medical doctor.
