Bradshaw, James S. (James Stanford), 1921-

Wisner (1812-1849) was an early Mich. journalist who was the nation's first police reporter for the N.Y. Sun. "Stan" Bradshaw was born on Dec. 6, 1921 in Campbell (Mo.), the son of Clarence and Stella Bradshaw. He married Joan A. Rouquette on Dec. 18, 1953. Together they had four children, including Gillian Bradshaw, a popular author. In 1969, Stan was hired as a professor of Journalism at Central Michigan University (CMU). He was granted Emeritus status in 1984. At various times in his career, Stan was a foreign correspondent for The Associated Press covering the Cuban revolution, the funeral of Eva Peron, and trips to Latin America with then Pres. Eisenhower and Vice-Pres. Nixon. He also served as a press adviser at the Organization of American States and later for an A.I.D. program in Chile. Stan earned his Ph. D. from Michigan State University in 1969. A copy of his thesis is in the CMU libraries. He died on Aug. 2, 1990. (Information from his obituary in the Mount Pleasant Morning Sun, Aug. 3, 1990.).

James Stanford Bradshaw (1921-1990) served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, receiving the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge, among other honors, for his service in France and Germany. He joined the Associated Press in 1949 and from 1955 to 1961, covered Latin America. In 1961, Bradshaw became press adviser to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States. This was followed by his appointment as deputy public affairs adviser for the U.S. Agency of International Development, a position he held from 1962 to 1965. From 1965 to 1967, Bradshaw acted as the reports officer for AID (Agency for International Development) in Santiago, Chile. He joined the faculty of Central Michigan University in 1969 and retired at the end of 1983 as a full professor. He was a visiting professor at Xiamen University, China, from 1985 to 1986.
