Virginia. Weighmaster of Livestock.

Hide Profile

On 3 February 1844 the General Assembly passed an act requiring all cattle sold at market in Richmond be weighed by a weighmaster appointed by the governor. The weighmaster kept records of the animals' weights and sent quarterly abstracts of his accounts to the auditor of public accounts. In 1874 the General Assembly passed an act requiring the weighmaster to file returns monthly instead of quarterly.
