Carpenter, George H.

George H. Carpenter was one of five children born to Dr. Henry C. Carpenter and his wife, Ellen S. Cooper. George and his wife, Fernie, divorced in 1920. Together they had a daughter, Audrey. By 1922, George married Ruby E. Musgrove. They lived in Detroit until 1924, and later lived in Millbrook and Remus (Mich.). Ruby had a foster son, Calvin C . Carpenter. George's business interests were real estate and farming. Dr. Henry C. Carpenter (1836-1918) taught school in Ionia County (Mich.), having moved there with his parents from Ohio in 1852. He took medical courses at Cleveland Homeopathic College and the University of Michigan. Dr. Carpenter's medical practice started in the family homestead in Sebewa (Mich.), later moving to Woodland (Barry Co.). In 1900, Dr. Carpenter moved his family to Lake Odessa (Mich.).
