Engineer/Gender researcher. Karen L. Tonso received her B.S. (1972) in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, her M.A. (1990) in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado at Denver, and her Ph. D (1997) in Education Foundations, Policy and Practice from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
She was employed as an engineer with the Robert K. Morse Consulting Engineers (1972-1973) and Continental Oil Company (1973-1975); a Reservoir Engineer with the Marathon Oil Company (1975-1981) and the Central Bank of Denver (1981-1987) as well as a tutor, part-time instructor and adjunct professor at high schools and community colleges. Her research has focused on the impact of gender on women engineers and she is currently a visiting faculty member at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
