William F. Babin was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1939 and began working for a commercial photographer named Jack Schrader in 1959. Babin enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography in 1961 where he studied portraiture while working for a Manhattan studio. He was hired as the staff photographer with the Dravo Corporation in 1968, and in 1983 he and Richard Rich started Image Point Pittsburgh, an industrial and commercial photography business. William F. Babin was contracted by S.J. Groves Construction to document the construction of the Interstate 279 expressway project. Much of the documentation was conducted through aerial photography from 1986 through 1989.
