Stimson, Frederick S. (Frederick Sparks), 1919-
Variant namesFrederick Sparks Stimson was born in Newark, Ohio on January 1, 1919.
From 1944 to 1947 Stimson worked for the U.S. Department of State as Director of the Cultural Center in Medellin, Colombia, 1944-1946, and Assistant Public Affairs Officer at the American Embassy in San Salvador, El Salvador, March-June, 1947.
In 1954 Stimson came to Northwestern University as Instructor in Romance Languages. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1957, Associate Professor in 1963, and Professor in 1967. In 1981 he became Emeritus. Much of Stimson's research and writing dealt with Hispanic poetry in Latin America.
Stimson obtained his B.A. in Fine Arts (1940) at Ohio State University and his M.A. and PhD in Spanish (1952) from the University of Michigan.
