John J. Hunt was born in 1847 in Griffin, Georgia. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and was active in the United Confederate Veterans of which he was a commander of the Georgia Division and responsible for organizing their reunion in Savannah, Georgia in 1931. Hunt also served as a judge in the Court of the Ordinary in Griffin, Georgia and was elected as Commissioner of Pensions in 1931. He died in 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia.
