Rupert Chawner Brooke (1887-1915), poet, was born at Rugby on 3 August 1887. He was educated at Rugby and at King's College, Cambridge, where he became a Fellow in 1912. He travelled in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and the South Sea islands during 1913 and 1914, before joining the Royal Naval Division. He died at sea on 23 April 1915, and was buried at Scyros.
