George D. Todd, born in Frankfort, Kentucky in 1856, was the first Republican mayor of Louisville. He was appointed in 1896 by the Republican-dominated Board of Aldermen. Later, Todd was defeated in the mayoral race with Democrat Charles Weaver and returned to his iron business, the Todd-Douglas Iron Company. He died in Indiana on Nov. 23, 1929 and was buried in the Frankfort Cemetery.
