Lawrence Bacon Lee (1917-2003) received his B.A. from the Lewis Institute and his M.A. and Ph.D from the University of Chicago. He served as Professor of History at San Jose State University from 1957-1983 and specialized in environmental and water history of the Western United States. He was the author of Reclaiming the American West: an Historiography and Guide and Kansas and the Homestead Act, 1862-1905.
