In 1921, East Carolina Teachers Training School was renamed East Carolina Teachers College. In 1951, upon receiving college status, it was renamed East Carolina College. Howard J. McGinnis was acting president of the college from 1944-1946. He then organized the division of field services, and managed it until his retirement in 1950.
