Three German Sisters were sent to the United States by the Foundress, Mother Mary of the Apostles (Theresa von Wuellenweber) in 1895 from Rome, Italy, at the request of Milwaukee's Archbishop Francis Xavier Katzer, to do home nursing in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The number of Salvatorian Sisters grew and by 1926, the United States Community of Sisters became the North American Province. At the close of 1991, the Sisters numbered 153, ministering in nine states.
