In September 1982 Chancellor Bruce R. Poulton appointed a University Neighborhood committee to study and recommend policies and programs that would address environmental concerns and neighborhood relationships for North Carolina State University. The committee consisted of North Carolina State University faculty and staff, Raleigh city leaders and restaurant owners on Hillsborough Street. The issues discussed were long-range University land use and acquisition plans, parking and traffic concerns of the campus, neighborhood, and businesses. The committee also discussed the appropriate mix of housing to maintain residential communities and to meet needs of University students, staff and faculty.
