Hide Profile

Clinton Melton (d. Dec. 3, 1955) was an African-American gas station attendant in Glendora, Mississippi. He was shot to death by Elmer O. Kimbrell after Kimbrell accused Melton of pumping more gasoline than he requested. When the murder case was tried, Kimbrell was acquitted by an all-white jury. The case attracted a considerable amount of attention as Kimbrell was the best friend of one of the accused in the highly publicized murder of Emmett Till. Melton was survived by his wife Beulah and their four children.
