Texas Land and Mortgage Company

The Texas Land and Mortgage Company of London, Ltd. (TLMC) was founded in 1882, during a boom time for British investment outside the country. By the next year, the company had established an office in Dallas, Texas, with C. E. Wellesley as trustee and general manager. The TLMC focused on lending money on the properties of individuals and other companies, becoming one of only a few Texas speculation corporations to prosper in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
