Wayne Carleton Smith (b. Dec. 4, 1901, St. Joseph, Mo.-d. Nov. 13, 1964), U.S. Army officer, was commissioned in the Infantry from West Point in 1925. During the 1930s, he served with the 15th Infantry in China and as company commander with the 19th Infantry in Hawaii. He was assistant chief of staff for supply, VII Corps, and chief of staff, Central Pacific Base Command, during World War II. Assignments after the War included assistant commander, IX Corps, then with the 45th Division in the Korean War; commanding general, 7th Division in Korea; and commanding general, 11th Airborne Division. General Smith retired in 1957.
