Ball and Crommelin (Law firm: Montgomery, Ala.)

Hide Profile

The law firm of Ball and Crommelin operated in Montgomery in 1833 after Charles Crommelin obtained the right to practice law in the area. Little is known about George C. Ball, except that prior to 1833, he was associated with Thorington and Dargan, sometimes identified as Dargan and Ball. Crommelin also associated with this firm, and in 1837 the two purchased controlling interest. About 1850 Ball declared bankruptcy. Charles Crommelin continued his career until his death in 1850, after which it seems his estate or his sons were still receiving legal documents until about 1870.

The law firm of Ball and Crommelin was well known in the Montgomery, Mobile, and New York areas. The firm dealt with the collection of debts and payments for individuals and companies. The majority of Ball and Crommelin's cases were tried in Alabama county courts.
